The story got even stranger afterwards: the boy, it turns out, had fled home after an argument with his mother, stole her car and was planning to drive himself to California to buy a Lamborghini. The choice of car was not random; in fact, that’s what the argument with his mother had been about: her refusal to buy him one because, duh, he’s 5 and those things cost a lot of money.
The boy took out the $3 he had in his piggy bank and took matters in his own hands. He made it 3 miles away from home when he was pulled over, and was able to get off on the median and stop the car without problems. The boy had never driven before, which made the story even more intriguing.
Days later, a Lamborghini Huracan owner from nearby drove up to the boy’s house and took him for a ride with him. Also then, word got out that the family had been in touch with a mysterious car dealer about the possibility of flying out to the dealership, where he would actually drive a Lamborghini.
That wish has also been granted. The dealer was celebrity car broker RD Whittington who owns Wires Only in Los Angeles. Not only did he have the boy over for a visit at the dealership, allowing him to jump in the driver seat of a Ferrari, a Hummer and a Lamborghini, but he also got to meet some of RD’s celebrity friends, TMZ reports.
It doesn’t look like the boy actually got to drive the car of his dreams, but he was allowed to play inside all of them and rev the engines. There’s a video at the link above, and the boy’s grin when he hears the roar of the engine is very sweet – and relatable.
RD flew the boy and the family out on his own dime. He also got Shaquille O’Neal, Lil’ Pump and Jamie Foxx on Facetime, which allowed the boy to chat with them. The cherry on the top was when RD drove the boy in a Lamborghini, right down to Foxx’s house, where the three got to hang out for a while.
This won’t make the debate on rewarding bad behavior go away, because it seems like this kid’s reckless act is earning him plenty of excellent treats of all types. To balance this out, his mother is saying that he’s being punished for what he did. For what it’s worth.
