Modern Camaro Gets Retro Redesign with Split Bumper 1970 Look

There are thousands of excellent Camaro builds out there, blending the old design with modern technology. So, if you really want something entertaining, how about a modern Camaro that’s made to look like it’s from the 1970s?

It happens sometimes in other segments, where people try to do complete body swaps because the classics are so coveted. Also, we have seen our fair share of replicas impersonating Lamborghinis or Ferraris from bygone years.

But this highly entertaining rendering from wb.artist20 tried to create something that probably doesn’t belong in the real world. It’s a current Camaro that’s been Photoshopped with lots of elements from previous generations.

However, the biggest influence here is obviously the second-generation pony car, or the 1970 model if you want to be specific. The four headlights kind of trickled into the following model years. The order of the lights is reversed in the rendering, probably being the most awkward thing of the render.

There’s no mistaking other trademark features of the old Camaro, especially the split bumper design with a black spoiler cutting the bumper at about a 45-degree angle. “’ve noticed doing these that the classics tend to have slimmer profiles vertically and more ground clearance so that’s what I tried to duplicate among other things. I personally love the simplicity of it,” the artist notes in his post.

He’s right, of course. America network has never been in tip-top shape, so it makes sense for ponies to ride over the humps and bumps. But with lifted suspension, old-fashioned Goodyear tires and orange paint, the General Lee vibes are undeniable. It’s the wrong car, obviously, but don’t you just want to see this Camaro convertible flying over a creek in Dukes of Hazzard style? That would just be wrong in all the best ways.
