The AMI is put together based on criteria such as the number of factory employees relative to vehicles produced, along with assembly location. Following the Ranger and rounding out the top 5 are the Jeep Cherokee, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model 3, and the Honda Odyssey. This year's data indicates that up to 70 percent of shoppers now take into account a vehicle's economic impact as either a significant or deciding factor, making the 2020 list especially relevant.
"The auto industry is highly globalized," commented Kelsey Mays, the senior consumer affairs and vehicle evaluations editor at Cars.com. "But these 91 models bring jobs to America and investments to our local communities."
The survey also revealed that 40 percent of consumers would be likelier to purchase an American-made car as a direct result of the ongoing health/economic crisis.
