This Midsize Truck Camper Is Surprisingly Spacious

Sure, there are plenty of relatively affordable camper vans out there. But if you’re looking to take your midsize pickup truck on an extended adventure, Scout is offering a cool solution that sleeps up to four people. Not bad for something that weighs under 1,000 pounds.

The new Scout Yoho is a lightweight camper with a reconfigurable interior. The floor is just under 70 inches long, providing just enough room for the essentials. In the day, it’s a seating and dining area, and at night, you can convert the space into two separate beds. Since midsize trucks don’t always have the best payload capacities, it’s important that the camper is light. The Yoho comes in with a dry weight of 913 pounds, making it considerably lighter than the company’s bigger Olympic camper at 1,133 pounds.

Utilizing an aluminum exo-skeleton framing, the Scout Yoho is designed to be durable and fit for any season. There’s no wood, so nothing to rot. The camper gets a gel coat fiberglass exterior and roof.

Other standard features include a stainless sink, solar panel, portable Goal Zero Yeti 1000 Lithium Power Station with dual 110V outlets and USB outlet port, LED ceiling lights, moonroof, decorative interior composite panel, and a 21-inch entry door. There’s also a 10-pound propane tank. If you want to get a little fancy, you can opt for goodies like a fridge and freezer with WiFi, a portable toilet, an awning, a gas cooktop, and a tiny gas fireplace.

So how much does it all cost? The Scout Yoho starts at $19,240, which isn’t that much less than the company’s Olympic camper for big trucks. The Yoho fits a wide range of midsize trucks including but not limited to the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Ford Ranger, and Nissan Frontier.
