Pictured in blue in the main photo, the rendering is pretty faithful to the life-sized model photographed at the Michigan factory. The winch, bull bar, auxiliary lights on the roof, and BF Goodrich mud-terrain tires are obviously add-ons, but still, they should prove popular with the Bronco crowd.
Also imagined in Jurassic Park livery and in 15 different colors for the exterior, the four-door Bronco seems to be a winner as far as styling is concerned. Not only did Ford retain the square-ish design of preceding models, but it has also brought back the circular headlights of the 1960s original.
Speaking of which, the first generation came to be as a competitor to the Willys CJ-5 - renamed Jeep CJ-5 in 1964. The second generation is underpinned by a shortened version of the F-100 pickup, and a workhorse also serves as the basis for the 2021 model year. Namely, the Ranger.
In addition to sharing a factory and the body-on-frame chassis, the Bronco is also supposed to get the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed automatic transmission as standard. A promo video of the Bronco R features the unmistakable sound of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, and rumor has it that Ford could also offer a seven-speed manual transmission for off-road enthusiasts.
In the frenzy leading up to the unveiling, a dealership in Salina, Kansas publishing pricing information according to which the Bronco would start at $30,000. At first glance, it makes sense given that the JL Wrangler Sport with the six-speed manual and Pentastar V6 powerplant kicks off at $28,295. However, don’t forget to take the Ranger and Escape into account.
At $24,410 for the mid-size pickup truck and $24,885 for the crossover, respectively, one has to wonder how much the Escape-based Bronco Sport will cost. Now try to imagine how much of a difference will be between the compact off-roader and the mid-size model. In all likelihood, the Ford Motor Company will price the Bronco higher than arch-rival Wrangler.
